That Thing

Missional High School Event

That Thing is a summer conference for high school students to come together in pursuit of Christ, overwhelming themselves and their communities. This is not spring break with a little bit of Christ sprinkled in and it’s not bible boot camp either. This is preparation & sending.

That Thing finds the place in the middle. It engages students into a deep pursuit of the heartbeat of our Creator as they pursue reconciliation, justice, and discipleship through small groups, corporate worship, and personal devotion encounters. Fun activities like camp wide games, the waterfront, and crate climbing, help to foster community and play. Through activities like paintball and the giant swing, students engage character discussions on honesty, integrity, and encouragement. Through it all though, is a central focus on the message and hope of Christ being lived out through each person at camp, so that they can learn how to live it out beyond camp.

New for 2019

2 Shared Community Meals As A Camp Family

Throughout God's Word and still today, conversations, teachable moments, fellowship, and encouragement take place while sharing meals. There is a great impact that comes from being surrounded by like-minded people, all seeking the way of Jesus. We want to provide and create more opportunities for our students to experience these moments outside of Worship Sessions. They have a bigger-than-ever fight up against the world back at home and are often surrounded by people saying and living in a way that's opposite of God's heart. We're excited for our students to feel the courage and joy that can come from knowing they are not alone in this mission. One way we plan to do this is through sharing a couple meals together. The cost of those meals is included in registration fees.


Youth Mission Projects (YMP)

A bit of a throwback to EFCC's strong history, each cabin will be invited to highlight, showcase, create awareness, &/or fundraise for their local/global missions & projects. Sell freezer pops or bracelets to fund a mission, set up a table in the Beach House to create awareness, develop a commercial with the A/V something as a cabin that will add value to a mission or justice project away from camp.

Revamped camp-wide games because who doesn't love a little friendly competition and togetherness?!


Active Labs / Learning Labs / Mission Lab

Our traditional breakout discussion groups are gaining a little distinction and intentionality. Active Labs will take place in the morning and involve different hobbies or interests, such as Clubs for A/V, Running, Drama, Synchronized Swimming, etc., and our crowd favorites like Faux Yoga and Zumba. It'll be an incredible way to start the day in fellowship while learning and doing the things you love! Learning Labs will be specifically designed for spiritual growth and discipleship. Some will be student led through some unique methods that are engaging and interactive. Lastly, our Mission Lab will take place each day after lunch in the Auditorium. We'll meet different mission partners and hear how God is using them to change the world and how we can be involved through prayer, support, or participation!

Facility & Grounds

We're looking at how we can improve the spaces we already have to meet the goals of That Thing and the needs of our guests. This will include clearer opportunities for pick-up games throughout the day as well as improvements and/or changes to the Waterfront, Beach House, and Flat Lodges.
