What is Family Camp?

Family camp is unlike any camp you’ve ever experienced. Instead of sending the kids away for a week why doesn’t the whole family join in on the fun? Taking up only a weekend this camp is full of activities for any age and helps to develop family bonding through strengthening the family’s relationship to God. Worship and devotions are a critical part of the week that include sessions specifically for adults and kids.

We believe that the family is stronger when everyone has a strong relationship with the Lord and so we hope to strengthen and develop that relationship, and in turn, the families who visit us. Each day has a whole camp worship experience and each family is given devotional materials to complete together. The goal is that each person is able to have a little fun while also growing closer to God.

Experience

Located in rural Indiana away from the hustle and bustle of busy life, the Family Camp experience will engage the whole family in finding awe and wonder in God’s creation. With over 300+ acres of wooded forest to explore, experiencing creation is one of the main joys of our families who visit. Nature coupled with a fun family, teen-only, and adult-only times allows for the whole family to grow closer together while also growing closer to God.

Camp Lakewood’s Mini Camp provides a classic camp experience, perfectly fit for the youngest students. Adventures including: boat rides, zip lines, and a  bouldering wall give excitement to each day. Most importantly, an emphasis on spiritual development through hearing about God’s love, devotional time in their cabin, and evening worship gives each young camper a fresh look into what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

As each week dives into the theme, “Treasure,” campers will have the chance to learn about the Kingdom of God and the treasures within it. Ultimately, our hope is that campers see the Bible as one unified story telling about the greatest Treasure of all, Jesus Christ. Exploring Creation, Hope, Jesus, Jesus’ Sacrifice for us, and our response to that we believe that campers will not only have a good time at camp but have their lives transformed forever. Campers will explore these ideas and more through rich teaching from strong spiritual leaders, in small group devotional times with their cabins, in small group times with staff members and at evening worship at Vesper Hill. Our prayer is that each camper who leaves Lakewood will be transformed by the grace of God, on mission to fulfill our call to live a life of love full of the fruits of the spirit.

Camp Lakewood’s High School Retreat recognizes 3 key things. 1. High School students are busy and many cannot give up a week of their summer. 2. High School students are stressed and desire personal connection. 3. High School students are ready to meet the Lord in a simple location, surrounded by peers, focused on making an internal change which will result in a positive impact on the world. Camp Lakewood’s first ever High School retreat is a response to those 3 needs and will be a highlight event of any student’s summer!

Camp Adventure’s Impact Camps provide a classic camp experience, featuring action-packed adventures including: swimming, blobbing, paintball, low ropes, and high ropes. Most importantly, there is a deep focus on Christ through an amazing spiritual program including small groups, modern worship and opportunities to ask the tough questions about God.

Clear Gospel Message

At Camp Adventure, we teach and explore the gospel with students through worship, stories, small group discussions, and feature activities. Each week has a different speaker and spiritual director to lead the students to a real and intimate relationship with our Savior. 

Camp Worship

Praise can be expressed in many different ways, therefore, we like to help campers become inspired by the Holy Spirit’s movement during different worship times throughout the week. Each week brings a new worship team to lead students to give their all to our Creator. Lookout Lodge, which also doubles as the dining room, turns into a sacred worship space with high-tech lighting and dynamically led music.

Campers also have the opportunity to worship through exploring nature on our vast acreage, meeting in small groups, navigating through the Bible, and encouraging one another through activities like the low and high ropes courses.

*This event will run in coordination with a 3-6 Express Camp. In order to provide the best experience possible for each age group, two directing teams will be on site, with one focused on k-2 and another focused on 3-6. Activities/worship/teaching will be separated by age groups. Cabins will also be divided by age group to provide best possible camper care.*

Camp Lakewood’s Express Camp provides a classic camp experience on a shortened timeline. This exciting week provides exciting features including a zip line, lake swimming, and more for campers of all ages! Moreover, teaching is catered directly to the age of each camper so whether they are in kindergarten or going into 6th grade, they will get a lesson just right for them! Through these experiences and time in Cabin Groups, campers will make new friends, strengthen old bonds, and grow in interpersonal skills. Most importantly, an emphasis on spiritual development through hearing about God’s love, devotional time in their cabin, and evening worship gives each camper a fresh look into what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Volunteer Director Team

Our July 25-28 directing teams are split into two, so that kids of all ages are met right where they are at. The k-2 team is being led by Hanfield UMC’s Shirley Sadler, Kayla Brooks, Beth Fisher and Brittany Cox. The 3-6 team is hosted by Dayton UMC’s Kent Stader, Mindy Stader, and Sarah Null. These teams will bring over 10 years of experience and a profound commitment to Jesus Christ. This is a great first time experience for campers!
